Migrate from Asana to Equilibrition without duplicating tasks

Asana structures team projects well, but the same task can belong to multiple projects. Migration must therefore bring work over without creating silent duplicates.

Starting format

Preferred JSON or project CSV

CSV

CSV import available today

Equilibrition can import CSV today. If you export JSON to keep more structure, convert it into a preview CSV before importing.

Path

The 3 migration steps

1

Export from Asana

For each project, open the menu next to the project name, choose Export/Print, then JSON preferably or CSV if you want a directly tabular file.

  • JSON preserves structure and identifiers better than CSV.
  • For a large account, plan exports project by project to stay in control.
2

Import the CSV into Equilibrition

Convert JSON to CSV if needed, then import into Equilibrition. Teams become suggested domains, projects remain projects, sections remain source groups, and tasks keep their hierarchy.

  • Rich notes become task bodies or linked notes.
  • Custom fields are mapped to known fields or kept as metadata.
3

Review the mapping

Deduplicate by Asana ID, keep all project memberships, and review dependencies before confirming the final import.

  • A multi-project task must not be created twice.
  • Comments and attachments are handled as linked history or resources.

Watchouts

Limits to know before importing

  • Project-by-project export can be tedious for a large Asana workspace.
  • Tasks belonging to multiple projects must be reconciled before final creation.
  • Future OAuth should not be required for the initial migration path.

Coming later

An OAuth connector may avoid some manual exports later, but guided CSV import already lets you migrate priority projects.
