Migrate from Evernote to Equilibrition with ENEX then CSV

Evernote is often an archive of many years of notes. A useful migration does not turn everything into tasks: it keeps notes as context, tags as references, and attachments as private resources.

Evernote exports ENEX from the desktop app. For the current import, turn useful notes into CSV, then keep the ENEX as the control source.

Export from Evernote

Open Evernote for Windows or macOS, select a notebook or set of notes, choose Export, then ENEX, including available attributes such as tags, dates, and author.

Export each notebook into a separate file to preserve the original container.
Use HTML only as a fallback and avoid PDF, which does not preserve attachments as usable files.

Import the CSV into Equilibrition

Convert ENEX into a structured notes CSV, then import that CSV into Equilibrition. Notebooks become suggested containers, notes remain notes, and tags become labels.

ENEX resources are decoded, checked, and copied as private files when usable.
Checkboxes remain in the note; converting them into tasks should be confirmed.

Review the mapping

Review notebooks, tags, attachments, source URLs, and reminders. Notebook stacks must be remapped manually because the export does not preserve them.

A stable identifier can be derived from the notebook, creation date, and raw content hash.
Evernote reminders or tasks that cannot be represented remain as metadata with a warning.

Watchouts

Limits to know before importing

Evernote Web is not the recommended export path: use the Windows or macOS app.
An ENEX file does not always provide a stable external identifier.
Notebook stacks are not preserved directly and must be remapped.

Coming later

More automated processing may reduce the ENEX-to-CSV conversion later, but today's import remains deliberately reviewable.
