Migrate from Things 3 to Equilibrition without touching the SQLite database

Things 3 is personal and very Mac-native. Because there is no public cloud API, migration must stay simple for the user: produce a readable file, convert it to a structured CSV when needed, then import it into Equilibrition.

You do not need to open a SQLite database manually. The practical path uses AppleScript or Shortcuts exports, then a clean CSV for the Equilibrition import.

The 3 migration steps

Export from Things 3

Use an Apple Shortcut or signed exporter to read Areas, Projects, Headings, To-Dos, Tags, and Logbook, then produce a stable JSON or tabular file.

Avoid editing AppleScript, running commands, or opening the Things database manually.
Then transform the useful columns into CSV: title, notes, project, due date, tags, and status.

Import the CSV into Equilibrition

The CSV import creates projects and tasks. Areas become suggested domains, Headings become source sections, and task notes stay attached to the action.

Checklists can remain inside the task or become subtasks depending on the selected model.
The Logbook can be imported as an archive if you want to keep completed tasks.

Review the mapping

Pay special attention to start dates, deadlines, reminders, and repeats. These are the fields where Things and Equilibrition can differ in meaning.

Someday can become a status or source horizon, to confirm before the final import.
Ambiguous repeats are preserved as provenance if they do not convert cleanly.

Watchouts

Limits to know before importing

Things 3 has no public cloud API: the path depends on a local export or shortcut.
The SQLite database remains a support fallback, not a step requested from the user.
Complex reminders and repeats may require manual review.

Coming later

If a more automated exporter becomes available, it should remain optional: the guided CSV path remains the available baseline.
